It was so wonderful to be back in worship with you all, after a restful and renewing time away with the family. Our joyful return was clouded by the news of the shootings in El Paso and Dayton. But at such times, there’s honestly no other place I rather be than gathered with the family of faith seeking God’s peace. Thankfully, the Spirit had something to say to us with the reminder that life is meant to be shared. Claiming what God has given as our own – and then hoarding and protecting it – ultimately leads to the death of our souls. And, we are a people who seek life.
This Sunday, we’ll continue to wrangle with the inevitable give and take of our lives. While the world takes – and encourages us to take – Jesus encourages us to let go and trust that God delights in giving to us. Not only that, Jesus challenges us to be ready for what God wants to give… because we don’t want to miss it!
But, before then, I want to invite you to a family-friendly party for the young – and young-at-heart – this Saturday, 1-4pm on the church lawn. There will be a slip-n-slide, snacks, and music. Come ready to get wet and have fun!
Finally, tomorrow and Friday, I’ll be down in NYC at one of many sites nation-wide hosting the Global Leadership Summit. This will be my third year in attendance, and I always find it to be both challenging and inspiring. It’s chock-full of actionable leadership training that is valuable in any context. If you’re interested in learning more, they are streaming the opening talk for free tomorrow (Thursday) at 9:30am here: https://globalleadership.org/ Check it out to sharpen your own leadership chops!
