Midweek Message – 11/22/17

Friends in Faith,

Happy Thanksgiving! Our stomachs – and our spirits – were satisfied after worship on Sunday. Pastor Gretchen proclaimed the promise of God’s love for us from the prophet Isaiah, and we ate till our hearts’ content during the Thanksgiving Dinner following worship. Thanks to all who helped or contributed to the feast!

This Sunday, I’ll be exploring Jeremiah’s invitation to “seek the welfare of the city” in Jeremiah 29:1,4-14. What did it mean to those who had been exiled to Babylon two thousand years ago, and what does it mean for us in Beacon today?

Between now and Sunday, we hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving wherever – and however – you choose to celebrate it. Our family made an impulse decision to head up to Erie to be with my parents. I’ll be back and eager to see you on Sunday!

In Christ,

Pastor Ben

PS – Please note that the office will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday, but the Welcome Table will be running this week as usual!

Stay tuned for a full list of our Advent/Christmas activities at First Presbyterian. In the meantime, Dec 3rd will be here before you know it, so we didn’t want you to miss:

  • Deck the Halls (after worship in the Sanctuary) – All hands on deck for the “hanging o’ the greens” following worship. We’ll decorate the tree and the sanctuary together to get our space ready for the season
  • Grace for Amateurs Book Reading (5pm in McKinley Hall) – Kick off the holidays with fearless honesty from punk-rock-girl-turned-writer, Lily Burana. At this reading, we’ll explore her journey from depression and anxiety to “a faith of a surprisingly Jesus-y shape.” *Lily will be selling copies of her book at a sale price, with all proceeds going to First Presbyterian Church.
