Midweek Message – 11/30/17

Friends in Faith,

It was a wonderful service on Sunday where we heard the letter Jeremiah wrote to the exiles in Babylon. Like them, we are haunted by the idea of home, and – also like them – we were reminded that when we call, God will answer. This Sunday, we’ll hear a story from Daniel 3:1, 8-30 about a trial by fire for three of the exiles. Though they refused to bow down to the emperor, and were literally thrown into the flames, they were not left alone.

This Sunday is also the beginning of Advent – the season where we wait expectantly for Jesus Christ, the One who was born among us. Here’s a great video for those of you who would like to learn – or re-learn – what it’s all about. As a part of our Advent season of preparation, we’ll decorate the sanctuary after worship. Enjoy a quick bite at our Food & Fellowship time and then come back to the sanctuary for the “hanging of the greens.”

Also on Sunday at 5pm we have a great opportunity to welcome Beacon’s own punk-rock-girl-turned-author, Lily Burana, as she reads from her latest book, Grace for Amateurs. At this reading, we’ll explore her journey from depression and anxiety to “a faith of a surprisingly Jesus-y shape.” *There will be a Q&A session and Lily will be selling copies of her book at a sale price, with all proceeds going to First Presbyterian Church.

Hope to see you Sunday to kick of the season of anticipation with you!

In Christ,

Pastor Ben
