Midweek Message – 12/14/17

Friends in Faith,

Last Sunday – the second of Advent – was a chance to remember the hope we find in the coming Christ Child – even in the most hopeless situations. We also had an excellent congregational meeting following worship regarding our financial challenges for 2018. The feedback was helpful, and there was a buzz around the sanctuary as people clustered together to imagine ways we might roll up our sleeves and do the work to sustain our shared ministry.

Later on Sunday we had our Pints & Prayers: Joy to the World at Dogwood. The place was packed, the band was on point, ugly sweaters were in abundance, and carols were sung with abandon! We also raised over $200 for Presbyterian Disaster Assistance as they help our sisters and brothers in the Caribbean rebuild after last summer’s storms.

This Sunday, we’ll enjoy the story of Christ’s birth in this year’s Christmas Pageant, told in the Godly Play stye. And, we invite all singers to sing “The Hallelujah Chorus” from Handel’s Messiah following worship.

This Sunday is also the due date to contribute gloves, hats, and socks for guests of the Welcome Table and others in the community in need this winter. There are bins located at the entrance to the Sanctuary and in McKinley Hall. Please give generously for those in need.

Speaking of those in need, we invite all who are struggling these holidays – dealing with grief, depression, or despair – to join us for our Blue Christmas Service this Saturday at 5pm. Together, we’ll search for light in the darkness.

In our struggles and in our joys, in our fears and in our challenges, Jesus is with us.

In Christ,

Pastor Ben
