Friends in Faith,
Last Sunday, we heard the last teaching of Jesus before his death: the invitation to keep the faith, even in the midst of the birthpangs of this age. Listen Below. This Sunday, we’ll celebrate Palm Sunday by waving our palms and singing our “hosannas” just as the people did upon Jesus’ entrance to Jerusalem. We are excited to share that this year we have purchased eco-palms to use during worship. Not only do these palms provide a fair wage to the harvesters, but they are cultivated in a sustainable way that takes our call to be stewards of creation seriously.
This Sunday is also known as Passion Sunday, where we remember the story of the Christ’s suffering and death… all for the sake of love. During worship, we’ll have a retelling of this story, found in Mark 14-15. Here is a video teaser to help you prepare for the service. After being reminded of the lengths God will go out of love for us, we will celebrate two baptisms during worship: Cataleya Ingles (daughter of Danielle and Juan Ingles – and granddaughter of Denise and Lou Crisci) and Aubrey Joseph (daughter of Ronald Morgan and Crista Joseph, a member of the Way family).
From the Session: “After prayerful discussion and discernment, the Session voted to allow same sex marriages in our church. It will be our policy to treat requests for same-sex weddings the same as requests for opposite-sex weddings. We recognize that all Christians and those in this congregation may not agree on this issue, nor was the Session unanimous in its decision. It is both a matter of faithfulness and a matter of the heart for those on both sides of this issue. We therefore urge unity even in diversity of opinions. With this decision we hope to welcome all those who wish to worship God and, in so doing, more fully embody Jesus’ commands to love both God and our neighbor.” To read the full statement, visit our webpage.
I also wanted to share the news the Denise Arnold, a long-time member of our congregation, died on Sunday. Please keep her family in your prayers – including her sister, Jane Cooper – as they gather this evening for visitation and for the memorial service tomorrow at 10am (both at Libby funeral home).
