Friends in Faith,
It was a wonderful start to Holy Week last Sunday. We waved our eco-palms, we shared the power of the passion story in the Gospel of Mark, and we had the joy of baptizing two, new sisters in Christ. We begin our Holy Week services today and I pray that your soul will be able to mine the depths this sacred time. Here are what we are offering to help you do so:
Maundy Thursday Service – 7pm at the church. In addition to sharing communion in memory of Christ’s last supper with his disciples, we will fulfill Christ’s commandment (Maundy means mandate) to love each other through the washing of each others’ feet, just as Jesus did for them on his last night with them. John 13:1-17 shares this powerful story with Jesus sharing: “So if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have set you an example, that you also should do as I have done to you. Very truly, I tell you, servants are not greater than their master, nor are messengers greater than the one who sent them. If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them.”
Good Friday Service – 6pm at the church. It will be a simple, solemn service remembering the lengths Jesus went – to the cross and death – for our redemption. Note: this will be the only Good Friday offering this year as the traditional noon-time ecumenical service at St. Luke’s won’t be taking place.
Easter Sonrise – 7am Sunday at the Beacon Ferry Dock. Celebrate the resurrection with us on the shore of the Hudson River. This simple service will feature acoustic music and a glorious view.
Easter Service – 10am at the church. Celebrate the resurrection with us with beautiful music and the aroma of spring flowers. We’ll tell the story of Christ’s resurrection and we’ll have special Easter gifts for children!
