Midweek Message – 3/9/17

Friends in faith,

The word “thanks” just doesn’t cut it for all the gratitude—to God, to you, to so many medical professionals—our family is feeling at this moment. It’s been challenging, and even a bit overwhelming, but we’ve been surrounded by love, prayers, and amazing support. If you haven’t heard, our daughter, Lily, was brought to Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital (Westchester Medical Center) on Saturday and diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. The care has been amazing in both the treatment she has received, as well as the education we are all getting. In addition to diabetes, she also has celiac and a thyroid condition. I’m so grateful for our congregation’s efforts to make our worship and fellowship more accessible for folks who can’t have gluten!

Speaking of worship, it was an amazing blessing to have Rev. Gavin Meek, our interim general presbyter of Hudson River Presbytery, offer to lead worship on Saturday so I could be with Lily and Gretchen. I’ve heard how much everyone included his presence, and he was glad to spend time with you. His message—about the Good Samaritan—was divinely timed.

Speaking of divine timing, this week’s gospel text—Luke 13:1-9, 31-35—couldn’t be more applicable to our lives. We’re hoping Lily will be discharged on Friday, and we are planning to be in worship on Sunday. Lily is eager to see you, and I’m eager to spend some time on the text together.

*In the meantime, don’t forget Hudson River University on Saturday (see below). If you want to come, but are looking for a ride, contact Jen Humenik: (845-401-7901 or Jenn.humenik@gmail.com).

Faithfully,

Pastor Ben
