Midweek Message – 4/20/17

Friends in faith,

It was a wonderful Holy Week: from the tenderness of Maundy Thursday foot-washing to the hauntingly beautiful music on Good Friday, from the windgusts of the Spirit feeding our Easter Vigil fire to the glorious Easter sunrise over the Hudson. The Easter service in the sanctuary was filled with the scent of flowers, the sight of ribbons and dancing from our children, the sound of uplifting choral music, and the invitation to remember—and tell others—that heaven is coming down.

We were also blessed to baptize Louis Silvernail and welcome five new members—Steve and Cheryl Silvernail (Louis’ parents), Amy and Regina Martinez, and Gretchen Thies Brokaw—inviting them into a more formal commitment to our shared life and ministry in Jesus Christ. You can learn more about them below.

This Sunday, we will hear one of my favorite stories: the encounter with the risen Christ on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24:13-35. I’ve been playing with a re-telling of this story from the perspective of one of the disciples along the road. You won’t want to miss the chance to hear this story in a new way.

Faithfully,

Pastor Ben
