Midweek Message – 5/11/17

Friends in faith,

Last Sunday, we heard from the chariot driver of the Ethiopian who jumped in after Philip ran alongside him and shared with him the faith of Jesus Christ. This Sunday, we’ll hear from Acts 15:1-18, as the early believers struggled with what was required to join this new faith called Christianity. In the end, it’s all about grace.

Speaking of grace, during the service, we’ll be graced by creative offerings from the congregation: poetry, songs, readings, etc. We’ll also be blessed by the beauty of the flowers that have burst for this spring. Here’s how you can participate:

  • If you have a song, poem, skit, or other 2-4 minute offering to share during the service, please contact Amy Martinez (amy.rachel.martinez@gmail.com) by Friday.
  • If you have flowers from your yard/garden to help us decorate the sanctuary, please bring them in by 9:30am on Sunday so we have time to arrange them.

Also, we will celebrate, recognizing that Mother’s Day can be complex for many of us—those yearning to be mothers but can’t, those who have broken relationships with their mothers, those who grieve, those who never knew their mothers, etc. We do so trusting that God is a mothering God (see “Hymn 7” in the Glory to God hymnal), and that God is present in these complexities—always loving, always welcoming us home with open arms.

Faithfully,

Pastor Ben

PS – Also after worship, head down the basement to see the work our artists in residence (see more below) have been up to as a part of Beacon Open Studios.
