Midweek Message – 6/1/17

Friends in faith,

Pentecost Sunday is only days away and we hope you’ll come to church wearing red this Sunday, as a traditional symbol of the Holy Spirit. Gretchen Brokaw, one of our new members, will be preaching and we’ll celebrate communion together. We’ll also be celebrating some milestones in the life of our church.

We hope you received the Stewardship letter in the mail last week. It was a simple note celebrating our purpose statement—Bridging Worlds. Encountering God. Healing Lives—sharing our vision (see below), and committing ourselves to the call to be faithful stewards of our shared ministries. It was also a chance to share our gratitude for those who share financial resources to support those ministries. Thank you!

Giving is easier than ever with our new online giving platform. If you haven’t already, we encourage you to check it out.

We are excited about our new purpose statement and our leaders are working hard to help us live into it together. We can’t do it without you, and we’re always open for your input. Let us know what you’re excited about, and how we might grow in faithfulness. Your contributions—financial and feedback—are always welcome!

Faithfully,

Pastor Ben

OUR VISION

First Presbyterian Church is a community of deep roots. We have been worshiping God at the foot of Mount Beacon since 1832. We love God, care for each other, and serve our community.

The nearby Hudson gives life in the muddy mixing of different waters. Likewise, we experience Jesus Christ’s transforming presence when we authentically share joys and struggles of our diverse lives.

Come as you are. We love music, food, and forming real relationships. Working together, and with partners in the community, we strive to help each other blossom into the fullness of who the Holy Spirit calls us to be. As changed people, we are called to change the world.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

SPRING PICNIC

June 11th, Following worship

Mark your calendars for June 11th! Invite your friends to join us for worship and then stick around for a picnic afterwards. This picnic will be hosted by our new members—those who have joined in the last year—as a way to get to know each other better.

PINTS & PRAYERS

June 25th, 4-6pm

Our worship band and Pastor Ben invite you to an informal, music-centered gathering at Dogwood (47 E Main St) as an outreach to our community. We are excited for this joint-effort of the Outreach Team and the Worship & Discipleship Team! Here’s the catch: it’s a small space and we really want to connect with new people. If you plan on coming, please bring someone who hasn’t been to our church. We hope to livestream on Facebook, so please share the link. We ask all members and friends of First Presbyterian—if you’re attending or even if you’re unable to attend—to donate $10 to help offset the cost of this exciting event.

PER CAPITA

Every year, all Presbyterian churches are expected to give a per capita apportionment for each member to support the ministry costs of Hudson River Presbytery and Presbyterian Church (USA). If you are a member and you haven’t already, please send in your per capita donation of $35 to the church office. As a congregation, we are responsible for the per capita giving for all our members, whether they pay or not. So, your gift is crucial. Any additional gifts will help us pay our fair share for the ministry of the larger denomination.
