Midweek Message – 6/22/17

Last Sunday, we discovered the gift of crying out to God – especially when we’re wondering how long our suffering will continue – and the promise of God’s goodness in the midst of our struggles. We also shared our thanks to Jenn Humenik and Renee Vitale – and all the support teachers – for a great program year for our Young Disciples. They’re taking a break for the summer, but stay tuned for more info regarding the program in the fall.  Speaking of the summer, our Deacons are conducting a brief summer survey about Food & Fellowship time (see below).  Please take a moment to fill it out.

This Sunday, we’ll revisit a beloved and familiar psalm – Psalm 23. What does it mean to live as God’s “sheeple,” and how are we assured of God’s presence, even in the valley of the shadow of death? Come, find out.

Also this Sunday, Pints and Prayers is finally here 4-6pm at Dogwood (47 E Main)! You’re invited to spread the word and:

  1. Bring a friend – We’re trying to connect with folks who normally wouldn’t come on Sunday. The BEST way to do this is for you to come with someone who might enjoy it.
  2. Sponsor a T-shirt – We’ve got great T-shirts lined up as gifts for folks in attendance. Your gift of $10 will help someone take home a beautiful memento of this unique event.
  3. Watch via livestream – We’ll be streaming the event on our Facebook page, so check us out and share the link: https://www.facebook.com/FPCBNY/

But, before the big day on Sunday, we’ve planned a church work party on this Saturday at 10am (see note below for more details). NOTE: Much of our work requires dry weather. If it is raining, the event will be rescheduled for July 8th at 10am.

Saturday, June 24th at 10am

Join us as we do some basic seasonal maintenance to the church grounds, including trimming the bushes & trees, staining the ramp, painting railings, etc. Wear work clothes. Bring any equipment you may have for lawn work or painting.  Food will be provided by the Welcome Table ministry, and it will be a great chance to learn about the good work they are doing! NOTE: Much of our work requires dry weather. If it is raining, the event will be rescheduled for July 8th at 10am. We’ll be sending out a text message on Saturday morning with an update.

Do you look forward to our Food & Fellowship time after worship during the summer? Are you able to help make it happen? Please take 5 minutes to fill out this Food & Fellowship survey for our Deacons to help them plan for the summer.

  • Pastor Ben and his family will be away on vacation June 26-30, but the office will be open for regular hours: Tues-Thurs, 11am-4pm
  • The office will be closed on July 4th, but will be open regular hours the rest of the week.

Every year, all Presbyterian churches are expected to give a per capita apportionment for each member to support the ministry costs of Hudson River Presbytery and Presbyterian Church (USA). If you are a member and you haven’t already, please send in your per capita donation of $35 to the church office. As a congregation, we are responsible for the per capita giving for all our members, whether they pay or not. So, your gift is crucial. Any additional gifts will help us pay our fair share for the ministry of the larger denomination.
