Midweek Message – 6/8/17

Friends in faith,

The Holy Spirit was experienced last Sunday, in sermon, song, and sacrament! Our shared worship was a great reminder of the roots of the word “liturgy”—an ancient Greek word meaning, “work of the people.” Many thanks to Gretchen Brokaw and all those who did the work of the people as we worshiped God last Sunday!

This Sunday, we begin a series on the Psalms with a focus on Psalm 100, a reminder to make a joyful noise to God and a testament to God’s enduring love and faithfulness.

This Sunday, we’ll also have a visit from Natasha Taylor of the Holmes Presbyterian Camp and Conference Center. If you’re still looking for summer plans for your children/youth, I can’t recommend Holmes enough! Natasha will be sharing during worship and will also be available after worship at our…

Spring Picnic! It’s finally here! Be sure to bring a friend and linger after worship for some good eats and good conversation. The picnic is organized by our new members, and it will be a great way to get to know them better. Hope to see you there!

Faithfully,

Pastor Ben

ANNOUNCEMENTS

HELP PRESBYTERIANS IN WAPPINGERS PROVIDE POST-FIRE CARE

June 17th, 9am-4:30pm

First Presbyterian Church in Wappingers Falls has decided to move their Thrift Shop & Food Pantry into the Church Building so they can make an apartment available to a family displaced by the fire downtown. At 4:30pm, volunteers are welcome to stay for our Free Community Dinner – a cookout in the churchyard. We’ll have burgers, hot dogs and salads. Let us know who’s coming & how many people we should cook for – RSVP by Thursday 6/15!

PINTS & PRAYERS

June 25th, 4-6pm at Dogwood (47 E Main)

Our community music outreach is only a couple weeks away. Here’s how you can participate:

  1. Bring a friend – We’re trying to connect with folks who normally wouldn’t come on Sunday. The BEST way to do this is for you to come with someone who might enjoy it.
  2. Sponsor a T-shirt – We’ve got great T-shirts lined up as gifts for folks in attendance. Your gift of $10 will help someone take home a beautiful memento of this unique event.
  3. Watch via livestream – We’ll be streaming the event on our Facebook page, so check us out and share the link: https://www.facebook.com/FPCBNY/

PER CAPITA

Every year, all Presbyterian churches are expected to give a per capita apportionment for each member to support the ministry costs of Hudson River Presbytery and Presbyterian Church (USA). If you are a member and you haven’t already, please send in your per capita donation of $35 to the church office. As a congregation, we are responsible for the per capita giving for all our members, whether they pay or not. So, your gift is crucial. Any additional gifts will help us pay our fair share for the ministry of the larger denomination.
