Midweek Message – 7/6/17

It was a true joy to share hymns together last Sunday during worship, to sing the beautiful melodies – most familiar, some new – and to encounter the deep faith in the lyrics. We also celebrated the sacrament of communion, and we commissioned Mary Jackson for her mission trip to Appalachia this week. We’re looking forward to hearing about it when she gets back.

“Let everything that breathes praise the Lord!“ These words wrap up Psalm 150, the final of our psalm series, and the focus for this coming Sunday. They are a powerful invitation for each of us to praise God in our own, unique way. Come, hear a powerful example of one person’s praise and ponder how you are called to praise God.

Before Sunday, we have our work party, take two this Saturday, July 8 at 10am. Come help us with some basic seasonal maintenance to the church grounds, including trimming the bushes & trees, staining the ramp, painting railings, etc. Wear work clothes and bring any equipment you may have for lawn work or painting. Food will be provided by the Welcome Table, and we hope you’ll take the opportunity to learn about this special ministry in the midst of our work.

Speaking of work and the Welcome Table, we have another chore to add to the list for Saturday: the final cleaning of our new oven.

A crew of volunteers brought the used oven from a closed restaurant to the church last Saturday – an engineering challenge to say the least! We’re looking for a couple people willing to add a little more elbow grease on Saturday so we can get it hooked up and put to good use as we feed people – body and soul.

Do you appreciate the power of how the sacraments – communion and baptism – convey God’s grace in the simple stuff of daily life? Are you looking for a simple, but important, way to serve the ministries of our church? The Session is putting together a “Sacraments Ministry Team,” a group of people who will be responsible for preparation and clean-up when we celebrate together. If interested, contact Steve Partlow, our Worship and Discipleship Chair.

You’re invited to join us as we read The Shack by William P. Young. If you would like to participate in a discussion group, stay tuned for more details. Whether you participate in your group, or read it on your own, we’ll all gather together in the fall to enjoy a meal, view the film, and share how it has affected our faith.

The new development near First Presbyterian Church (The Lofts @ Beacon Falls on Leonard St.) has offered applications to our congregation for those in need of affordable housing. If you or someone you know is looking, feel free to contact the church office.
