Friends in Faith,
It was a joy to worship on Sunday and be reminded of the powerful way God reoriented Job away from his own suffering and towards the vastness of God’s creation. And, it was a joy to welcome Lydia Adams Davis as an official member of our congregation. She shared her musical joy with our kids during the Children’s Sermon.
I’m looking forward to my own fresh perspective as our family prepares for a week at Chautauqua Institution next week. Our family has been blessed with a scholarship to spend a week at the Presbyterian House there, and I’m excited for the variety of speakers presenting on the week’s theme: Pushing Our Bodies’ Limits. We’ll spend the following week in Erie, PA with my family, and return for worship on August 21st.
While I’m away, I’m excited that you’ll have the opportunity to hear from the Rev. Abbie Huff, whose unique ministry is called The Nyack Project. Her topics for the next, two weeks are:
- August 7: “Out of the Boat,” based on Matthew 14:22-33
- August 14: “Remembering Rightly,” based on Exodus 3:10-16
On August 21st, we’ll begin a three-week sermon series on the Lord’s Prayer, and we look forward to baptizing Evelyn Martin, daughter of Sean Martin and Katie Wheeler-Martin.
We’ll take a break from Midweek Messages while I’m away. The next one will go out on Thursday, August 25th.
Note: We’re looking for an organized, committed person to serve as our new Administrative Assistant. Visit this link for application information.
Let’s get ready to host the Young Adult Volunteers (YAVs)
- Aug 14 & 21: Watch an video about the program during Food & Fellowship time following worship
- Aug 28: Meet the YAVs and explore ways to support them directly during the year & contribute to a special collection to support the ministry (note, we switched the special collection to Aug 28 from Aug 21)
