Friends in Faith,
Summer is here, and our family is preparing for a vacation for the month of July. But, before we go, I look forward to worship this Sunday, where we’ll unpack the transfer of authority from Elijah to Elisha – and the chariots of fire – in 2 Kings 2:1-2, 6-14. Speaking of fire, we’ll also take a look at Luke 9:51-62, where Jesus’ disciples wanted to rain down fire on the people who didn’t receive the Good News. Jesus promptly rebukes them, revealing something poignant for today: if it isn’t done in love, it isn’t good news.
Even while I’m looking forward to the time of rest and renewal, I’m grateful for all those supporting Christ’s ministry here at First Presbyterian Church while I’ll be away. Since there will be no mass emails from me during the summer, here is everything you need to stay connected during the month of July:
Worship – We have a great line-up for our upcoming Sundays!
- July 7 – Summer hymn sing with Sally Hitchcock, and communion with Joe Gilmore
- July 14 – Preaching by Deke Spierling with music by Katie Budryk
- July 21 – Preaching by Leslie Mott with music by Amy Martinez
- July 28 – Preaching by Ella Medley with music by the Correllus Family
Pastoral Care – For pastoral needs, contact Jackie Bucelot-Mills, moderator of the Deacons: 845-242-1973. Local pastors are on call, if needed. And, as always, Rose Quirk, our Stephen Minister, is available if you just need to talk: 845-600-5389.
Summer Work – The crew has already done a great job of painting the iron fence surrounding the church property! There may be a few other projects to work on. If interested, contact Mary Jackson: 845-831-5727.
Everything Else – Our volunteer admin team will be checking the office voicemail and email will direct your inquiry to the appropriate person.
May rest and renewal abound!
PS – If you haven’t already, check out last Sunday’s sermon. Just when you thought the story was over…
