The Christmas Pageant is this Sunday, and not only have the young people from Godly Play been working hard to tell the story of Christ’s birth, we are excited to have a real baby in the act this year! Seeing children act out the Christmas story – and singing the Hallelujah Chorus (we hope you’ll come down and sing with us) – always floods me with memories. Maybe you can relate.
Last week, we discussed the importance of memory, but we also got a helpful distinction between faith and nostalgia from David L Bartlett: Nostalgia is memory filtered through disproportionate emotion. Faith is memory filtered through appropriate gratitude.
That distinction is so helpful this Advent season as we look back at what God has done in anticipation of what God will do. We hope you’ll join us this Sunday!
